The salad emoji caused a lot of controversy on the internet

Who would have thought eggs are going to cause controversy on the internet? Google has just announced it had removed the egg from its salad emoji to make it friendlier for vegans. This brought the funniest reactions on the internet, but these people failed to see the actual purpose of the edit.

Google wants to be inclusive with vegans

The Art Manager at Google’s Expression Design team, Jennifer Daniel, was the one who spread the news on the new salad emoji. Before, this emoji included lettuce, tomatoes, and a sliced egg, but this wasn’t too appropriate for vegans. Therefore, Google decided to remove the egg and make the salad completely vegan-friendly.

According to Daniel, this was an attempt to be more inclusive with people who don’t eat any animal products. Google promotes diversity and equality and wanted to spread this ideology through emojis. The talk about equality actually comes from Alphabet, Google’s parent company, who supports equal pay regardless of gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or any other factors.

There have been tons of reactions to the new salad emoji

As a result, Google has decided to become more inclusive and offer alternatives to everyone. However, the people of the internet perceived the message differently and started making fun of Google’s inclusive salad emoji. Some said they felt oppressed because they hated tomatoes, while some vegans couldn’t understand how the emoji should make them feel better.

According to Emojipedia, Google was the only company who added eggs in the salad emoji. Initially, it contained only greens but then, with the Android 8.0 system update, Google added some egg slices in there. Now, it decided it was time to be inclusive, but no one had actually noticed the eggs were there in the first place.

Seeing the whole controversy on the internet, Daniel intervened again and explained the mystery of the salad emoji. The company promoted equality and inclusion, but the real purpose was to bring the emoji closer to its Unicode description. This description indicates the presence of lettuce, tomatoes, and some other salad items, such as cucumber. Eggs were not present, so they had to go.
